IS 3589 Mild Steel pipes with Three Layer Polyethylene (3LPE) anti-corrosion coating are the most widely used combination for bulk water transmission in India's lift irrigation schemes. The IS 3589 standard specifies steel pipes for water and sewage in diameters from 168.3mm (6 inch NB) to 2540mm, while 3LPE coating provides durable protection against external soil corrosion over the pipe's design life of 30 to 50 years.
