Steel Weight Calculator — MS Pipes, Plates, Coils & Sections
Use the JND InfraSteel weight calculator to determine the weight of Mild Steel (MS) products including Round Pipes (ERW, HSAW, LSAW, GI), Square Hollow Sections (SHS), Rectangular Hollow Sections (RHS), MS Plates, HR Coils, Equal/Unequal Angles, ISMC Channels, ISMB Beams, MS Flats, Round/Square Bars, Checkered Plates, and TMT Bars. The calculator computes weights instantly in Kilograms (Kg) and Metric Tons (MT).
Features of our Steel Calculator
- Pipes (ERW, HSAW, LSAW, GI): Input sizes via NB (Nominal Bore) dropdown or standard outer diameter (OD) and wall thickness. Automatically supports standard wall thicknesses and outer diameters matching industry specifications (IS 1239, IS 3589, API 5L).
- Hollow Sections (SHS & RHS): Separate dimensions input for side width and thickness to accurately calculate structural weight.
- Custom Button sizes: A dedicated "Custom" option is available in all size dropdowns. If a standard size isn't listed, simply click Custom to specify your own dimensions, and the calculator will dynamically compute the volume and weight.
- Formulas & Steel Density: Calculations are based on the standard density of Mild Steel: 7.85 g/cm³ (or 7850 kg/m³).
Standard Steel Calculation Formulas Used
- Round Pipe Weight Formula:
(OD - Wall Thickness) × Wall Thickness × 0.02466 (gives weight in Kg per meter, where OD and thickness are in mm).
- MS Plate / Coil Weight Formula:
Length (m) × Width (m) × Thickness (mm) × 7.85 (gives total weight in Kg).
- Square Hollow Section (SHS) Formula:
(Perimeter × Thickness - 4 × Thickness²) × 0.00785 (Kg per meter, where perimeter = 4 × side in mm, and thickness in mm).
- Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS) Formula:
(Perimeter × Thickness - 4 × Thickness²) × 0.00785 (Kg per meter, where perimeter = 2 × (Side A + Side B) in mm, and thickness in mm).
- Structural Steel Angles: Computed geometrically based on leg lengths and thickness.
